Carter Miller Band & Inside Andy's Steakhouse

I have a ton of Andy's Steakhouse stories but must be having writers block or something. As time goes by I plan on filling in some missing stories on this blog.
Bottom picture Carter Miller @ Andy's with Spicer sitting in, space looking head is yours truly & to the right Dick Moreland & Greg Whitaker.

Top scan Carter Miller's 45 released when they played @ Andy's.

PS: The only thing I crawl to is the coffee maker in the morning.

  1. I remember a resturant named Andy's Pit Bar-B-Q that was on the north trail across from the new (1960's) Ford dealership. Is this the same place that was converted into a steakhouse? Andy's was a big screened in porch with some great ribs. What ever happened to that place? Just curious.

  3. Andy's "Steakhouse" was located in the back corner of the shopping center (Gulf Gate?) located at the intersection of Kelly Road (Bayshore Blvd.) and the East Tamiami Trail. To my recollection, it was much more of a "nightclub" that it ever was a restaurant.

Andy's "Pit Bar B Q" (where Brookside Homeboy once worked) was out on north 41 just past the "Flame Lounge" and the MG - Austin Healy dealer (where I worked in 1965).

p.s. Bayshore will always be “Kelly Road” to me!

  4. Andy's Steakhouse was a lot of fun (I saw it rain mulch one night)but the real issue her is The Carter Miller Band. We (can I name names?) spent a lot of time following these guys around town. Open Hearth, Andy's Steakhouse, The Back Door Lounge, where ever they played they were always a buch of fun. We wouldn't let little things like the Collier County Sheriffs riot squad keep us from an evening listening to them (you know who you are if you were in my van that night, thank God Danny is smooth talker). I wish I could relive one of those nights now perhaps a little more sober, Did we really drive to San Carlos Park 7-11 because someone thought they would sell us beer after 2am? Did we drink any of those beers or just get them to show we could? I don't really recall. Carter Miller, the best damn band in town, or maybe the only band in town? Well the BEST DAMN BAND in town as far as I was Concerned.

  5. So, I see Carter Miller one time in my life - and the picture you put up has me playing with them! How crazed is that? If you people lived through multiple nights like the one night I experienced them - my hat is forever off to you! I would run down some of the shenanigans of the night, but I doubt there is a statute of limitations on such actions... so, to keep some pantless character, inside a garbage can, hopping over to put some butt cheeks on a convenience store window, out of trouble... I will just end it here...

  8. I was a bartender at Andy's back when it was the IT place to be. Carter- Miller band and the band called Dust were my faves!! It was a GREAT job at the time because cops closed us down early many weekends due to too many people inside. So we got to make our $ & still be able to catch last call @ Hearth or Even Odds .

  9. I knew the band when they were in SF. Does anyone know where Chip and Johnny (Rob) are now?

    1. Chip's living near Nashville. He's on Facebook, search Chip Miller. I haven't seen Johnny since the SF days in the '80s.
