Not a blog more like another pier banyan tree, a place to come & sit for a little while & wait for something fun to happen. A place for all the greezers, candyasses, Halloween egg throwers, former Publix bagboys & dirt bike riders to kill a little time until Halloween. Just like the good old days, wait around for a couple hours until you could find some geezer to buy you beer...

The newest car in the picture is a ’62 Chevy Impala. Note the diagonal parking (all the way to 2nd Street). There were no parking meters, and no parking lot.
ReplyDeleteThe corner of 1st Street* and 12th Avenue South was occupied by a rather large cottage that I believe was a satellite of the “Old Naples Hotel” complex; it may have been destroyed in “Hurricane Donna” .
The “Mariner” property was basically a vacant lot with a beach cottage on the SW corner, and there was also a vacant lot across from the “Banyan Tree” where formerly stood another large cottage.
* Correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to remember that Gulf Shore Boulevard was 1st Street until you got to the Beach Club Hotel.
Hasta,

Late 70's, the guard on the pier was an ex pro wrestler named Duke. He lived with his wife off Kelly Road near Turner Nursery. They were revered for nude sunbathing in their backyard. Del of Del's market on Kelly Road also scrapped professionally in the 60's - early 70's. East Naples Royalty on the strong side of the Trail.
